(Trap)

(Growth)

1.0

防错 (Anti-Error)

2.0

优化 (Optimize)

3.0

创意 (Creativity)

Do (执行)

Mental Model 013

The Checklist
Manifesto

"You didn't neglect it,
you Refused it."

READ TIME: 13 MIN • SOURCE: YUE JIAN • 2025-11-01

THE DIAGNOSIS

Wang's "Darkest Hour"

Wang Qiyu, 38, a veteran Project Director. At 4 AM, his system migration project crashed. Millions in transaction value at risk.

The cause? A tiny, low-level mistake: A missing payment config patch. Wang had verbally reminded the team, but in the exhaustion of 3 AM, relying on "brain" and "experience" failed. A veteran died from a rookie mistake.

Core Issue

Execution Vanity: Obsessed with the elite feeling of "strategizing", despising the "dumb work" of checklists.

MINDSET OS

Naked Mind (Trap)

Rely on Memory
Arrogance = Omission = Disaster

Exoskeleton (Growth)

Rely on Checklist
Humility = Standard = Zero Defect

"True professionalism is not showing off what you remember, but fearing what you might forget."

SYSTEM STABILITY

Human vs. Checklist

Under pressure, checklists boost stability from 60% to 99.9%.

3D Checklist Method

1.0

Anti-Error (Shield)

Goal: No mistakes. List every step, no matter how small. Verb + Noun. Execute like a robot to guard the baseline.

2.0

Optimize (Polish)

Goal: Efficiency. Review after execution: Which step took long? Can we reorder? Automate? The list is alive.

3.0

Creativity (Free)

Goal: Liberation. Since the checklist handles "memory", your brain is free to think about "complexity" and "innovation".

ACTION GUIDE

From "Firefighter" to "Architect"

01. Admit Humanity

Wang stopped trusting his brain. He used an A3 paper checklist. Even for "Backup DB", he checked the box.

02. Free Bandwidth

Not worrying about "forgetting", he sipped tea and spotted a competitor's flaw. Checklist handled the trivial; he handled strategy.

03. Earn Respect

Client called his team "Swiss Watch". He quit the vanity of performance and earned top professional respect.
